Q. I am fairly new to football. What are the general rules of the game?

Q. When does the season start and how long does it run?
A. The season begins in mid-July with practices; the first game is usually the last weekend in August. There is one game and two practices per week until the last week of October. Every team is guaranteed at least one playoff game and if eligible, the championship game is played mid-November.
Q. How much does football cost?
A. The cost for the season is:
Tyke $200.00
Atom $280.00
Peewee $370.00
Bantam $370.00.
This cost covers:
Maintenance of equipment
Certified game officials
Medical personnel at games
Field rentals
League fees
Q. What division would my child play at?
A. As at December 31st of the current year:
Tyke: 8 & Under
Atom: 9 & 10
Peewee: 11 & 12
Bantam: 13 & 14
Q. Does the GMFA supply all equipment?
A. The GMFA will supply most equipment. However, each player is required to supply their own mouthguard*, football or soccer cleats, and practice jersey. Mouthguard can be purchased from GMFA when equipment is issued.
Q. Where can I get additional equipment?
A. Cleats and mouthguards are fairly standard and can be found in most are sporting goods stores. Other football accessories are rather difficult to find in Guelph, but you can try Webco in Kitchener and T.Litzen in Dundas.
Q. What is your refund policy?
A. You may request and receive a full refund, less a $25.00 administration fee, up to August 15th of the current year. After August 15th, refunds are not provided.
Q. Is there any travel?
A. Half of the games are played in Guelph. The other half will be played in the other centres of our league. Currently, there are teams in Kitchener, Cambridge, Brantford & Brampton.
Q. When is registration?
A. Check the Main Page of this website for current registration dates.
Q. Can girls play?
A. Absolutely.
Q. Are coaches or Board members paid?
A. No. All are volunteers.
Q. Can I attend Board meetings?
A. Yes. Board meetings are open to all members..
Q. Are there many injuries in football?
A. No, but like any contact sport, there may be injuries of a minor nature.
Q. What if my child has never played football before?
A. No problem. Our instructors are there to teach them. In our house league program, approximately 50% of the players are new to the game every year.
Q. Do all players get equal playing time?
A. It is our policy that each player is guaranteed fair playing time.
